Overall Job Description |
The Museum of Childrenīs Art operates a childrenīs art gallery and studio, as well as a number of outreach programs in the schools and community. In combination these programs serve approximately 25,000 children annually. MOCHA currently has several programs that take place in the galleries and studios six days per week. These include exhibitions, classes, camps, workshops, a field trip program, a drop-in art program, and birthday parties.
During the summer, two arts-based day camps are conducted Monday through Friday for children ages 6-10 and 10-15.
Art Apprenticeship Program
For High School Teens We offer MOCHA's Art Apprenticeship Program. Teens ages 15 and up are welcome to apply for a position as an Art Apprentice. Apprentices will be trained to work with younger children and help out with art activities. It's a great way to gain experience working in the arts and having fun too. There is no fee to participate in our Art Apprenticeship Program. All interested teens must send in an application and be interviewed by MOCHA staff. If selected, the teen must commit to working a minimum of two MOCHA sessions and complete our MOCHA apprentice training.
The Art Apprentice is responsible for Summer Arts Camp activities such as:
- Assisting teaching artists in the setup, lesson time, and cleanup of hands-on art activities.
- Leading campers in recreational activities.
- Assisting in keeping the gallery, studio and art supply storage areas clean and organized
- Meeting with MOCHA staff to coordinate and prepare for summer camp activities.
- Engaging with public to answer questions about MOCHA programs.

Position Responsibilities: |
- Daily Program Launch and Closure. Working with art educators and summer camp staff, maintain safety and security with intake and release of campers, organize morning and afternoon circles, introduce activities as scheduled.
- Art Lessons. Working with art educators, assist in the setup, lesson time, and clean up of hands-on art activities. Assist children with the art lesson being taught, and encourage their creativity.
- Recreational Activities. Working with summer camp staff, lead the organization of structured and unstructured playtime and meals for children, including assisting with safe travel to and from parks and field trip sites.
- Studio Maintenance. Working with summer camp staff, assist in keeping the gallery, studio and art supply storage areas clean and organized, including cleanup of art lessons, recreational activities, and meals.
- Meetings & Training. Attend all required meetings and training sessions for summer camp staff.
- Public Information. Be prepared to courteously answer questions about MOCHA's programs if asked by the public, especially about the summer arts program, and be able to refer visitors to MOCHA staff for additional information about museum activities.

Position Qualifications: |
- Currently enrolled in high school
- Some experience working with children
- Interested in art
- Available to attend Summer Art Camp training in June (dates to be announced)
- Able to volunteer for a minimum of two weeks, Monday through Friday
