| Overall Job Description |
The Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA) provides a number of educational outreach programs in schools (K-12) and in the community throughout Alameda County. MOCHA offers in-school and afterschool residencies and professional development opportunities for classroom teachers. MOCHA also has several programs that take place onsite at the museum's gallery and studios six days per week. These include the museum's exhibitions, classes, camps, workshops, a field trip program, a drop-in art program, and art parties. MOCHA Teaching Artists provide hands-on arts instruction in a range of settings. They are also responsible for developing curriculum, planning, evaluation and meetings. All Teaching Artists in the Artist in Residency Program develop and teach curriculum that is tied to the state's visual art standards. MOCHA has three categories of Teaching Artists: Emerging Artist, Teaching Artist, and Master Artist.
They work in the following settings:
- In-School Residency:The program features long-term, sequential hands-on art education in classrooms during the school-day. MOCHA artists work with the classroom teacher to determine content which can be designed to support the core curriculum and be aligned to California State Standards.
- Afterschool Residency: Teaching artists provide hands-on art activities during the afterschool hours.
- Early Childhood Residency: Teaching artists provide long-term, sequential, hands-on exploratory art activities for children ages3-5 during the school day.
- Professional Development: Master Artists lead workshops for classroom teachers and youth development workers interested in learning the basics of integrating art into the classroom and community program setting.
- Field Trips: Classrooms and afterschool groups will participate in an interactive art lesson, along with a guided tour of the current exhibit at MOCHA.
- Museum Programs: Onsite Artists may facilitate drop in studio sessions, teach art workshops, lead summer and holiday art camps, and art parties.
- Special Events/Community Programs: MOCHA currently provides afterschool arts education at Peralta Villa, an Oakland Housing Authority site. We also provide hands-on activities at community events (e.g. Days of the Dead, etc.)
