There is no need to spend a lot of money to frame or mount artwork. Here are a few ideas on how you can display your artwork

FRAMING

DON'T buy a new frame, or pay a framing shop to frame it for you. You can purchase an inexpensive frame, or recycle an old frame. Don't worry if the frame is not a perfect fit; It is actually better if the frame is larger than the artwork. Use a plain/solid color piece of paper as background, and place your artwork in the center of the frame.

MOUNTING

Again, no need to have your work professionally mounted. All that is required is that your artwork is mounted on a stiff board You can use cardboard, matte board or any stiff paper. You can paint the paper a plain/solid color (black or white is good) Just like the frame, don't worry if the cardboard isn't the exact size if your work.

To stick your artwork to the background, don't use a wet glue (like white glue) which will cause your artwork to wrinkle. Whatever glue you use, remember that less is better.

Rubber cement is one kind of glue you can use.

  • Spread a thin layer on the back of your artwork, and on front of the background.

  • Let it dry.

  • Place the artwork on the background. It will stick, sort of like a post-it note. Any extra glue which peeks out can be removed by just rolling it with your fingers.
Another glue which is good to use is spray fixative. It comes in an aerosole can; just follow the directions.

Finally, you might want to create your artwork ON the background. You can paint or draw on stiff board, and your work will be ready to hang!
